Experts Agree, Red Light Therapy Helps Your Muscles Heal

Red light therapy seems to be trending in the health and beauty arena, but seems to be gaining traction in the fitness world! The reason more athletes are attracted to red light therapy is because it can help your muscles heal faster!

What is red light therapy and how does it work? Red light therapy Light emitting diode (LED) light therapy is growing in popularity in medical offices, spas, and at home. Using varying LED wavelengths, red light therapy is different from laser or intense pulsed light (IPL) therapies because it doesn’t cause damage to the skin surface.

Red light is thought to work by producing a biochemical effect in cells that strengthens the mitochondria. The mitochondria are the powerhouse of the cell — it’s where the cell’s energy is created. The energy-carrying molecule found in the cells of all living things is called ATP (adenosine triphosphate). By increasing the function of the mitochondria using Red Light Therapy, a cell can make more ATP.  Since your body is able to use this extra energy for rejuvenation and repair, this energy provided to your cells may contribute to many benefits.

Red light therapy also reduces inflammation. Which is one of the reasons our muscles get sore after we work out! Applying Red light therapy to the muscles we work out significantly reduces the soreness allowing athletes to get back to working out in half the time compared to those who don't use this technology! It has even proven to help heal and prevent injuries in athletes as well!

The bottom line, red light therapy is a wonderful tool to apply into your workout routine!
